Kenya prolongs UAE flight ban as stalemate continues

Passengers feel the pinch as the flight-ban between Dubai and Kenya continues and travel between both countries remains restricted.

The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) extended its travel ban on passenger services from Dubai in response to a prolonged sanction issued by United Arab Emirates (UAE), which banned all passenger flights from Kenya.

The extended ban went into effect on January 17, 2021, following an unresolved parley between the authorities of the two countries.

According to reports from Business Daily, KCAA director-general Gilbert Kibe had opened negotiations with his counterparts in the UAE. However, an agreement was not reached.

“I have corresponded with the director-general of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and I’m waiting for his feedback before the close of business today,” said Kibe on January 17, 2021.

Kibe added “If they don’t respond before 5 p.m. today (Monday), I will extend Dubai–Nairobi passenger flight suspension effective midnight.”

After receiving no response from Dubai’s authorities, the seven-day flight ban, which initially went into effect on January 10, 2021, has been extended to January 24, 2022.
